Podcasts: Why These Are The Ones I Follow
When it comes to podcasts, I have a bit of a split personality—one side loves diving deep into all things art and creative business, while the other can’t get enough of true crime stories. Whether I’m painting in my studio, running errands, or just taking a breather, podcasts are my go-to for learning, inspiration, and, let’s be honest, a little bit of guilty pleasure.
Podcasts for My Creative Business Journey
As a creative entrepreneur, I’m always looking for ways to grow, refine, and energize my business. These podcasts have been game-changers for me:
Honest Art Podcast with Jodie King: Jodie’s raw, unfiltered approach to art and life is so refreshing. She talks about the messy middle of being an artist and makes you feel like you’re not alone in the journey.
Art + Audience with Stacey Bloomfield: Stacey is a powerhouse when it comes to connecting with your audience as a creative. Her insights into building a brand and fostering relationships are pure gold.
Proof to Product with Katie Hunt: If you’re thinking about wholesale (or even just curious), Katie’s podcast is a must-listen. She breaks down everything from pricing to production in a way that’s approachable and actionable.
The Professional Creative with Bonnie Christine: Bonnie’s focus on systems and strategies is perfect for those of us who need a little structure in our creative lives. Her episodes are packed with value and leave me feeling motivated.
The Tillage Podcast with Shirley Fisher: Shirley’s podcast feels like chatting with a friend who just gets it. She covers everything from mindset to marketing, and her honesty is so inspiring.
These podcasts have helped me tackle challenges, dream bigger, and stay motivated in my creative business. Plus, they’re great company when I’m in my studio working on a new painting or pattern design.
My True Crime Obsession
Now, for the flip side of my podcast playlist: true crime. I’ve always been fascinated by mysteries and why people do what they do, and these podcasts are my favorite way to unwind (if you can call it that) and satisfy my curiosity:
Morbid: Ash and Alaina bring a mix of humor and sensitivity to even the darkest stories. Their banter makes heavy topics feel a little lighter. I also love how they highlight the victims of the crimes and really tell their story.
Small Town Dicks: Real cases from small-town detectives? Yes, please. This podcast dives deep into stories that are as intriguing as they are unsettling and told by the detectives that helped solve the crime.
Crime Junkie: Ashley and Brit’s storytelling is so compelling. They’re great at keeping you hooked from start to finish.
Murder with My Husband: A true crime fan, Payton, and her “not-so-into-true-crime” husband, Garret, make this podcast both entertaining and unique. It’s like eavesdropping on a fun (but morbid) couple’s conversation.
Into the Dark: Payton's podcast is a deep dive into chilling stories that are perfect for when I’m in the mood for something truly gripping or mysterious.
Listening to these podcasts gives me a little escape and taps into my love of storytelling—albeit the darker kind. There’s something about piecing together the puzzle of a crime that’s oddly satisfying.
Why I Love Both Worlds
At first glance, it might seem like art business tips and true crime stories have nothing in common, but for me, they’re both about learning and curiosity. The creative podcasts teach me how to build a thriving business, while the true crime ones satisfy my curiosity about the human experience—the good, the bad, and the downright bizarre.
So, whether I’m dreaming up my next painting, planning my wholesale shop, or just folding laundry, these podcasts are my companions. They keep me inspired, entertained, and always learning—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
What about you? Do you have podcasts that feed both your professional and personal passions? Let me know—I’m always on the hunt for new listens!
